When talking about famous celebrities, we only think about sheer glitz and glamor. But would you believe that some of them also hide skeletons in their closets? Yes, actually there are a good number of them who were convicted of crimes in the past. Here’s a list of the top 5 famous celebrity ex-cons and arrests:

1. Tim Allen

Tim Allen was arrested in 1978 for illegal possession of cocaine. He was supposed to be sentenced to a life in prison, however, he turned state’s evidence by pinpointing his cohorts. Because of this, he was only sentenced 5 years in prison and was paroled after 2 and a half years.

2. Al Pacino

The great gang leader and the foreboding head villain in many films was actually arrested in 1961 for carrying a concealed weapon. However, the charges was later dropped when 21 year-old Al Pacino told the police that the weapon was a prop he would be using for his acting job.

3. Larry King

Larry King is known today as one of the premier broadcast interviewers in the US. He is an award-winning TV personality who has won the Peabody Awards, Emmy Awards, and Cable ACE Awards. He’s the host of the nightly interview TV program Larry King Live on CNN. Despite his accomplishments, however, Larry King also also had a run-in with controversies and criticisms–one is when he said that Miss Pennsylvania was the ugliest contestant in the 1990 Miss America pageant. Aside from this, King was also accused of making a lot of comments that are discriminating. But what people barely know about him is that back in 1971, King was actually arrested in Miami for larceny.

4. Winona Ryder

It seems that no matter how rich and famous celebrities are, some of them cannot resist secretely putting some items into their bags. One of these celebrities is Johnny Depp’s former flame Winona Ryder. She was arrested in 2001 for shop lifting in Beverly Hills. She was accused of stealing $5,500 worth of accessories and designer clothes at a Saks Fifth Avenue department store.

5. Yasmine Bleeth

Yasmine Bleeth became famous for the role Caroline Holden in the long-running series Baywatch. She was arrested when she was caught driving under the influence and when the police found syringes with an injectable cocaine in her hotel room. In 2002, she was sentenced to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service.

Some of these celebrities were convicted of crimes before they became famous, while others committed crimes during the peak of their popularity. There are two sides to this story: one is how they managed to rise to popularity after an arrest or conviction, the other is having to break a luminous career with a life of crime.

Related questions:

1. Is it true that celebrities always get away with their crimes?
2. Who are the hottest celebrities convicted for shoplifting aside from Winona Ryder?
3. Do celebrities commit crimes as gimmicks?
4. Who is the celebrity who committed the gravest crime?
5. Is there a convicted celebrity penalized by death sentence?

Every year, there are many people from different countries immigrating to the United States. In fact, as of 2006, the United States is found to accept more legal immigrants to be permanent residents than any country in the world. In 2006, the total number of immigrants in the United States was estimated to number 37.5 million people.(1) Various myths surround immigration, and these myths are perpetuated by some uninformed groups and people, and even several media outlets. If you’d like to immigrate to the USA, then it’s important for you to know which pieces of information are just myths. This way, you’ll know just what to believe and what not to. This would also let you know what other people think of immigration and immigrants.(2)

Myth #1: In polls, majority of Americans voted that immigration should be reduced

This isn’t true. Americans aren’t against immigration at all when polled within the appropriate context. Vince Breglio, a Republican pollster, found out that by a two-to-one margin, Americans voted that US citizens should continue to sponsor their adult children as well as brothers and sisters. Grass Roots Research also released the results of a national poll that showed 61% of Americans agreeing with the statement saying “Anyone, from any country in the world, should be free to come to America if they are financially able to provide for themselves and their family.” With this in mind, you can at least be assured that not every American thinks negatively about immigrants.(3)

Myth #2: Because of poor US border enforcement, there has been a higher rate of undocumented immigration.

The fact is that the budget of the Border Patrol increased six times between 1986 and 1998, and there are now double the number of agents patrolling the southern border. The remote wilderness areas around the border are also inhospitable areas, making border crossings in those areas practically impossible. The real reason behind undocumented immigration to the United States is that compared to the amount of jobs available to immigrants, the legal avenues for immigrants are insufficient.(4) But this doesn’t mean that you should try to get into the US as an undocumented immigrant because, if you’re discovered, you risk being deported.(5)

Myth #3: Immigrants don’t pay any taxes

Immigrants are not exempt from paying taxes; they have to pay taxes just like everyone else. In fact, immigrants pay around $90 to $140 billion a year when it comes to state, local, and federal taxes. With immigrants earning around $240 billion each year, paying around $90 billion in taxes, and using only around $5 billion in public benefits, the government actually earns more off immigrants than it does off Americans. Usually, it is undocumented immigrants that do not use public benefits for fear of getting caught. This just goes to show that it would be better to come to America as a legal immigrant.(6)

Myth #4: Most immigrants have illegally crossed the border, making them undocumented immigrants

Approximately two thirds of immigrants are legal immigrants, and almost 50% of illegal immigrants entered the country in a legal way. This means that they came to the United States with visas allowing them to reside in the country temporarily as students, tourists, or temporary workers. These immigrants were inspected by immigration officials before they were allowed entry into the country, and they became undocumented immigrants when they didn’t leave the country after their visas expired. Illegal immigrants often don’t get to use public services, so make sure that you come to the US as a legal immigrant so that you can make the most out of your stay in the country.(7)

Myth #5: Nothing could be done regarding the backlash against immigrants

If you’re scared about being discriminated against, or that it would be hard for you to cope in America because Americans will be against you being there, don’t worry too much. The backlash against immigrants is being dealt with by well-meaning people through educating others in communities. Even immigrants have rights too, and you can always seek help if you get to the United States and find that it’s hard for you to get a job or a place to stay in because you’re being discriminated against.(8)

Myth #6: Immigrants are discriminated against because they are more likely to commit crime than native-born Americans

In the United States, immigrants in every ethnic group actually have lower rates of crime and imprisonment compared with the native-born Americans. Even adolescent immigrants are less likely than native-born teenagers to engage in negative behaviors such as violence, substance abuse, and delinquency that often lead to imprisonment. If you’re not going to be a threat to public safety and national security, then you don’t have to be afraid that immigration officials are going to be prejudiced against you because they think that you’re going to cause crime rates to rise.(9)

Myth #7: Immigrants increase the unemployment rate of native-born Americans

There are some Americans believing that immigrants take away jobs from Americans. This isn’t true at all. For one, immigrants actually increase the demand for various services and goods because of their consumption. Immigrants have also been found to have high rates of entrepreneurship, which can lead to the creation of jobs for Americans. They also contribute to the economy and can necessitate the growth of markets. Aside from that, immigrants can fill vital niches in both the high and low-skilled parts of the labor market, creating subsidiary job openings for Americans. Although there may be many job opportunities in the United States, it would still be good to secure a job before you
go there, perhaps through an employment agency.(10)

Myth #8: The United States spends billions of dollars on welfare benefits for undocumented immigrants

If you think you’re going to receive lots of welfare benefits for being an immigrant, then you have to know that undocumented immigrants are actually not qualified to receive any welfare benefits. Even those who are legal immigrants are restricted when it comes to the benefits they can receive. So you have to make sure that you’ll be able to sustain yourself and family when you immigrate to the United States.(11)

Common misperceptions regarding immigration to USA can result in doubt and suspicion. This is why it’s very important for you to do some research about immigration and to seek the help of immigration lawyers if you plan to immigrate to the US. After all, you wouldn’t want to get there illegally and find yourself deported, would you?(12)

If you plan on immigrating to Canada, then you will most likely do some research about the country so that you can learn more about it. You might also find yourself turning to friends and colleagues for their opinions or tidbits of information that they can give you about Canada. But no matter where you turn to for information, be it the Internet, the television, or your friends, you might find yourself faced with immigration myths rather than truths. Even television personalities are guilty of spewing out things about immigration to Canada that are untrue. Keep this in mind and be wary of what you believe in. After all, you should be careful, because believing a myth can cause trouble for you
when you do immigrate.(1)

Myth #1: Canada is just a nation of immigrants

Since 2001, there have been 221,352 to 262,236 people immigrating to Canada every year. Although this seems like a huge figure, immigrants to Canada in 2001 did not make up more than one percent of the total population growth during that year. This seems like such a small percentage of the population to call Canada a nation of immigrants. Most inhabitants of Canada are those who have been there since birth, or native Canadians who have opted to stay in their homeland. It is best that you don’t assume that there will be more immigrants in Canada than “real” Canadians. Many people make the mistake of thinking that they will be able to find lots of people there from their native country and eventually blend into the scene. These people, who come to Canada expecting to fit in right away, usually end up disappointed.(2)

Myth #2: Just about anyone can immigrate to Canada

If you think you can easily qualify to immigrate to Canada, then you might be overconfident. Just like in the United States, Canadian immigration is ruled by comprehensive legislation that only allows admission to those who are able to meet the legislative requirements. This doesn’t mean, though, that you shouldn’t even try to immigrate to Canada because immigration rules are strict. After all, denial of entry is limited to individuals who are threats to national security or public safety. Make sure that you meet the statutory criteria related to criminality, security, and medical requirements, and you’ll probably get admitted to Canada.(3)

Myth #3: The federal government extends more financial assistance to refugees than to Canadian pensioners

Do you want to run away from the oppression you’re experiencing in your own country? Is immigrating to Canada one of the options you’re considering simply because you think you’re going to get much financial assistance there? Well, the truth is that the federal government of Canada does give financial assistance to refugees. But this financial aid is only for a short term and couldn’t compare to what Canadian pensioners make. To sustain your life in Canada, you would still need to work. It’s still vital for you to support yourself and your family financially. It’s not enough for you to just rely on financial aid from the government, because this might not be enough to meet your needs.(4)

Myth #4: Illegal immigrants in Canada are not detained

The legal basis for detaining immigrants in Canada is almost the same as that of the United States. If you’re an illegal immigrant in Canada, don’t think that legal action won’t be done in case your real status is discovered. If you are deemed to be a flight risk, or if you are found to be a danger to the public, or if you are a security threat, then you may be detained. Once detained, you need to complete a security screening assessment before you gain a refugee or asylum status.(5)

Myth #5: Once a married individual person becomes a permanent resident in Canada, the kids and spouse will immediately be allowed to immigrate

Think it’s easy to immigrate to Canada and it will only take a short time for you to get approved for immigration once your spouse has already been deemed a permanent resident of Canada? You might be in for a surprise. Currently, it takes approximately eight to ten months for your application to be processed. You can’t immediately join your spouse once permanent resident status is gained. You and your kids will have to wait several months. It would be good for you to make the necessary arrangements and to apply as early as possible if you wish to immigrate immediately.(6)

Myth #6: It’s easy to find jobs in Canada if you’re a skilled worker

Canada keeps on enticing skilled workers to immigrate, but not all of them are able to find jobs immediately. In fact, many of them arrive feeling positive and hopeful, only to find out that they will be rebuffed by different professional entities. Some choose to be underemployed, starting from the bottom of the corporate ladder, just so they can find work and earn enough money to sustain their living. This doesn’t mean, though, that all skilled workers who immigrate to Canada suffer from this fate. If you plan to immigrate to Canada, it would be good for you to secure a job first through employment agencies before you go there. This way, you are assured of a job and you won’t have to go job hunting when you get there.(7)

Myth #7: Canada is a nation with no identity and no culture

In 1995, Sheila Finestone, who was then the Multiculturalism Minister, proclaimed that Canada has no culture. This message got some people to think that Canada is looking for immigrants because it needs diversity — it needs people with culture because the country is so bereft of identity that it needs to fill itself with immigrants who have cultures of their own.(8) Canada has culture, albeit one that is heavily influenced by French and British culture and traditions.(9) The culture of the Aboriginal people in Canada has also become incorporated into the mainstream culture of modern Canada.(10)

Myth #8: Canada is home to a large number of illegal immigrants

Although Canada has its share of illegal immigrants, the number of illegal immigrants in Canada is small compared to that in the United States. There are around 60,000 to 200,000 illegal immigrants in Canada, which is a fairly small number compared to the 12 million illegal immigrants in the US.(11)

There are many exaggerated claims being made about Canada and its immigration policies. What you should learn is that immigrating to Canada is a serious issue, one that you should think long and hard before doing. You may be tempted by the prospect of greener pastures there, but make sure that you migrate legally so that you can enjoy all the benefits that being an immigrant in Canada has to offer.(12)

Heroin got its name from the German term for heroic, as those who tried it out it in its early days reported feeling valiant and heroic after ingesting or being injected with it. Heroin is an opium-based drug derived from the drug morphine. In its early years, this drug was marketed as the antidote to morphine addiction and was even lobbied by a pharmaceutical company to be distributed freely through mail to all morphine addicts. But after a few years of medical use, this substance proved to be an aggressive drug, as addicting as morphine. Finally, in the early 1900s, heroin was listed as a narcotic substance and was subsequently banned from being produced, distributed, and used in the United States.(1) With it, drug and alcohol rehab programs came to the rescue of heroin users.

Heroin, in smaller doses and in slightly different forms, may also be used for medicinal purposes. Marketed under the name of diamorphine, this drug is used to provide pain relief when administered through IV or subcutaneous ways.(2) Despite its medical use, heroin, when taken in large doses and used when not needed, could not only be addicting but could also result in eventual death because of overdose. Some heroin users also show change in behavior that often lead to conflicts with their relationships. Fortunately, there are drug and alcohol rehab centers to help patients cope with withdrawal symptoms for them to be able to kick the bad habit and stay clean. The program comes in many different forms but normally includes detoxification, counseling, and group therapy. One of the main objectives is to address the underlying cause and help build broken relationships. Options include undergoing in-patient or out-patient treatment.(3)

Heroin-inspired creativity

Though heroin has detrimental effects to the body and to the mind, it cannot be denied that more than just a handful of the greatest personalities in popular culture were users of this illegal drug. Some of the greatest works of literature, music, and art have been purported to have been made while in the throes of the drug and even after a person has quit using heroin for good with the help of rehabilitation.(4)

And though there are people who are too far gone into physical and mental decline due to drug abuse, there are those who recover and still contribute significantly to humanity. Here are just a few of the famous personalities of our time who have gotten over their “bad” habits and started living again.

Robert Downey Jr. (actor)

In between his stints as America’s boy next door and comeback king of the moment, Robert Downey Jr. was a heroin user. He did time in prison for a number of charges and went out of the limelight for a few years. In recent years, however, he rebounded and once again graced the silverscreen with the hit movie “Iron Man” followed by his controversial and comedic take on an Australian actor playing an African-American soldier in the movie “Tropic Thunder.” Yep, after heroin and all the other shenanigans, Robert Downey Jr. is definitely back.(5)

David Bowie (musician)

All those psychedelic explorations and unique sounds in his music could come from the real semi-lucid states when Bowie was under the influence of heroin. Though heroin has been noted as a drug that can cause impairment and eventual death, it helped produce some of the finest and most creative musical pieces. David Bowie then went on to have a very colorful career not only in music, but also in acting on movies and on stage.(6)

James Taylor (singer, songwriter)

Who would have thought that the romantic and love-themed crooning of singer/songwriter James Taylor were influenced by this drug. Apparently, James Taylor was a habitual user even before he hit big time. His substance abuse continued even during his peak years. Though he found and lost professional contacts due to his erratic behavior when under the influence, it cannot be denied that he was a prolific songwriter who produced tunes that are well-loved even today.(7)

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (lawyer, politician)

The Kennedys were a force to reckon with in the 1960s. Unfortunately, political struggles and the so-called Camelot curse put an end to their ideals. The next Kennedys in line still held the spotlight, but for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., it was a different kind of publicity after he was caught with heroin in his bag while on a flight to Dakota in 1983. The heroin user then turned his life around and now runs his own law firm. Rober Kennedy, Jr. doesn’t seem to display the same ardent interests in politics as the earlier generations of this distinguished family did, but he is a staunch activist working to preserve and improve the environment.(8)

Irvine Welsh (author of Trainspotting)

The memorable ‘rite of passage’ movie “Trainspotting” moved audiences around the world with its shocking but poignant portrayal of the lives of a group of junkies in Scotland. The movie was based on an equally spectacular novel written by Irvine Welsh, a writer who rose to the ranks as one the most highly creative novelists we have today. Though Welsh admitted to only doing heroin for 18 months, he clearly had the will to get up and leave the experience behind, eventually penning novels that saw worldwide acclaim.(9) Trainspotting wasn’t just fiction spun out of the blue but had elements that Irvine Welsh may have experienced during his days as a heroin user. After a string of successful novels turned blockbusters, Welsh has sponsored charities in his native country, Scotland.

Jim Carroll (author of The Basketball Diaries)

One of the movies that propelled actor Leonardo Di Caprio to stardom is “The Basketball Diaries.” The movie is based on the biographical novel written by writer slash punk musician Jim Carroll. Jim Carroll published some of the accounts of his teenage years in New York where his early life revolved around basketball, gangs, and drugs.(10)

William Burroughs (author of Junkie and The Naked Lunch)

William Burroughs was one of the most resounding voices of the Beat generation. In his first novel entitled “Junkie,” he offered details of his life as a heroin dealer in Greenwich Village. The lifestyle of heroin addicts was aptly described in the novel, shedding light to the seedy side of then puritanical America. His other novel, the “Naked Lunch,” which was made into a movie, also tackled addiction to heroin and other controlled substances.(11) Though Burroughs received acclaim through his writings and other works, heroin eventually caught up with him. Still, Burroughs was able to live out his life till he turned 83.(12)

These are just some of the personalities who have been users of heroin. While it may be argued that some of them produced their finest work while in the influence of the drug, it’s apparent that the effects of heroin come at a price on both the mind and the body. However, one gets to thinking that there have been countless musicians, novelists, actors, and other personalities who have come up with their masterpieces without even using the drug.

Cocaine, as a matter of criminal law and public health policy, is considered as one of the most dangerous drugs in the world–bringing addiction to those who abuse it and even death and imprisonment to those who take part in its illegal trade. What present day cocaine does to the human mind and body was not as evident in its early years with the Incas. In fact, the drug’s origins can be traced to a fairly medicinal leaf chewed by Incans for more than a thousand years even before the Spaniards came.

Early use of coca

The early Incans chewed the leaves of the coca plant for relaxation. Its numbing effect was taken as a relaxant that gave them the feeling of release and contentment. Chewing coca leaves had a stimulant effect on the Incans, renewing their zest and vigor at times.(1)

Food and beverage enhancement

Europeans eventually developed an interest in coca leaves. However, bringing these back to Europe in leaf or plant form would not be possible; they would rot throughout the voyage. Finally, in the 1800s, cocaine was extracted. It eventually found its way into the food and beverages of Europeans and into the Mariani wine. This wine was even endorsed by Roman Catholic Pope, Leo XIII, for its restorative effects on drinkers.(2) A world famous soda drink also had cocaine in its original recipe, but removed it in the later years.(3)

Medical uses of Cocaine

Medical practitioners eventually gained an interest in cocaine because of its curative effects observed in Latin America Indians. It was initially used as an analgesic, numbing parts of the body and getting rid of the pain one felt. It was also seen as a cure to alcoholism, which was then a prevailing problem in countries such as the US.(4)

When the pleasant effects of cocaine eventually wear off, users become addicted and afflicted with different kinds of maladies to the mind and body. Eventually, it was banned and made illegal to import, make, sell, and use in the US in the early 1900s.(5)

Recreational use and subsequent addiction

Cocaine also had effects on the mind that many users find very appealing. In order to experience that high, users need to take this illegal drug on a regular basis. This eventually leads to addiction when users find that they cannot seem to feel any better if they stop taking cocaine. Aside from affecting one’s mental capacities, the body also suffers depending on the form of the cocaine and how it is taken. Through prolonged use and combination with other substances, one may develop respiratory, cardiovascular, and even nervous ailments that may cause impairment and even death.(6) From famous celebrities to ordinary people, cocaine figures in many drug overdose incidents. Continued use also results in behavioral changes that then causes riffs in relationships. Cocaine users are also known to have troubles at work and making enough money because of their expensive vices. Fortunately, through assisted or forced drug and alcohol rehabilitation, it does not always have to end this way.

Cocaine abuse and drug rehabilitation

Cocaine users do have a choice. By seeking treatment in drug and alcohol rehab facilities, recovery could be within their grasp. Aside from detoxification, patients will also undergo counseling or even join group therapies. These will not only help them with the withdrawal symptoms, but they are also known to help them build their own self-esteem along with their broken relationships. The success of drug and alcohol rehab not only lies on the patient but from support of family and friends as well. Various treatments are available for in-patient or out-patient care. Though full recovery could take time, taking a small step closer to this goal could make a huge difference.

Contrary to common perception, cocaine users still have a chance to make a better life by starting anew. Listed below are some of the famous, self-confessed cocaine users who were able to make great contributions to human history.

Sigmund Freud

The father of psychoanalysis, Dr. Sigmund Freud, was an advocate of cocaine, citing its numbing effect suitable for use as an analgesic or as an anesthetic. He even recommended cocaine to other doctors.(7) However, he also wrote a number of in-depth treatises and papers about the so-called “magic drug” and its effects on the mind and spirit. Though he first observed its effects on another individual (Ernest von Fleischl) later on, Dr. Freud came up with his own descriptions of the experience while under the influence. Coccaine use, in the case of Freud, was part of his experimentation and in-depth study. The curious doctor learned about its real effects after getting into the experience itself. Still, it didn’t affect his genius, as he was able to come up with remarkable studies and conclusions to benefit even the future generations.(8)

Robin Williams

Academy Award winner Robin Williams is not only one of Hollywood’s top actors but also a self-confessed former cocaine addict. Back in the late 70s, Williams got hooked to this illegal drug. He once said that “Cocaine is God’s way of telling you, you’re making too much money.” He used to snort cocaine with actor John Belushi and was said to be among the last people to see him alive. Before he even got close to ruining his career and family, Williams was able to quit for good. The birth of his boy and the demise of an old friend willed him do it.(9) Though still flawed in many ways, Williams demonstrated that he had the will to overcome his bad habits. In fact, he even got himself to an alcohol rehab center voluntarily and even issued a statement about being sober for 20 years and slowly drifting back to alcoholism. Today, the Hollywood actor continues to reap awards for his film performances.(10)

Tim Allen

Before he tinkered with the power tools and had Pamela Anderson kickstart her career in his show, Tim Allen was a cocaine user. He was caught in a buy-bust operation in 1978 but was eventually freed after he turned state witness.(10) Tim Allen then went on to become a successful stand up comic, comedian-actor, and now has his own line of power tools. He made a complete a turnaround. As another household name, Allen was also known to use the comic approach to tell about his experiemces. Obviously, he now has a more cheerful outlook in life.

Stephen King

Prolific writer Stephen King made many readers feel the shivers with his countless horror novels but he himself faced his own demons during the time he was a cocaine user. Thankfully, friends and family saved him from the habit till he went on to write even more bestsellers.(11) Today, King is no longer immersed in his bad habit but in his critically acclaimed works, writing more horror novels for his awaiting fans worldwide. He is also one of the most prolific authors in the fiction world today, reportedly writing every day even during Christmas.

Robert Louis Stevenson

The case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a testament to the innate evil in everyone. The book’s author, Robert Louis Stevenson, also confronted his own cocaine-induced demons in his time. Stevenson was a sickly man; cocaine and other drugs were probably prescribed to him to ease pain and discomfort till they turned into vices.(12) Robert Louis Stevenson could have seen himself in the characters he made. There’s the good and bad side. But nearing the end of his life, the distant author then learned to enjoy the company of friends and other people, finally defeating his own demons.

Like any other recreational drug, the intake of cocaine could inspire creativity but with prolonged use can also result in one’s own demise. Before this happens, cocaine users could go for complete turn around, save broken relationships, and start a new life with the help of drug and alcohol rehab. Perhaps they could even make their own contributions and be part of a list similar to this one after several years.

To state the obvious, the penis is a body part that every man is born with, and a lot has been said about the importance of size in relation to giving pleasure. All of this makes it easy to understand why a number of men take interest in penis enlargement.(1) Naturally, the thought of a larger penis bringing larger amounts of pleasure seems to make perfect sense. But does it really? The truth of the matter is that whether or not the size of the penis affects the amount of pleasure given to another is relative. This means that while some believe that intimacy (combined with all the right moves) can make the smallest penis the greatest, others still insist on believing that size does matter.

So in case you’re one of the people who believe that penis enlargement is the way to maximize sexual pleasure, it’s best to first consider the myths about the many different products and procedures available for you. Take caution in this matter because, after all, the last thing you want is to work hard, spend a lot, and fuss over your enlarged penis when it really hasn’t been enlarged at all!(2)

So let’s get the facts straight. Here are the top five myths about penis enlargement products, methods, and procedures you might want to avoid as they may lead to nothing but disappointment:

1. Penis enlargement creams

Of all the methods of penis enlargement, the easiest, most painless, and most convenient method seems to be applying creams. These creams are made by many different brands, each one claiming to deliver results “in time.” How do they work? Well, these creams are act on the cells of the genitals by encouraging blood flow in the penis, which, as a result, dilates the veins and eventually makes the penis appear larger. To be more specific, these creams are supposed to increase the girth and thickness of the penis due to the swelling of the veins caused by the cream. But what’s the truth? Even if, let’s say, the creams do cause the veins in your genitals to swell, it does not happen overnight. In fact, it takes several applications of the cream to yield any kind of result, if any. Furthermore, the fact that the cream causes the veins to dilate and swell is an obvious fact that the product is affecting your penis negatively.

Swelling in the different parts of the human body almost always occurs only when the body is experiencing an adverse reaction to the product applied. If these creams really did enlarge your penis permanently, they would not be on the market anymore because every customer who applied them would now be satisfied and would no longer need to keep purchasing the product. The fact that these creams are still on the market, however, is proof that: first, even if they did show results, they would only be temporary, and second, the fact that there is swelling in your penis means that there is some sort of allergic reaction due to the unknown chemicals absorbed not only by your skin, but by your penis.(3, 6)

2. Penis enlargement pills

Based on human anatomy studies, penis enlargement pills cannot possibly work. This is because no amount of herbs or chemicals can cause your penis to grow—at least not permanently. What this means is that although there have been no medically approved claims of permanent penis enlargement through the intake of pills, certain chemicals and herbs can cause temporary swelling of the penis. Similarly to how Viagra increases male sex drive by causing erections, enlargement creams are capable of causing an increase in the blood flow, and therefore a temporary swelling of the penis. Unfortunately, this is not a permanent enlargement and will only last temporarily, leaving your penis back to its original size. Also, you must take caution when swallowing these pills. Since most of them are available almost anywhere and everywhere, there’s no way of telling what chemicals are in them. Some might even be severely dangerous to your health.(4, 6)

3. Penis enlargement oils

The application of oils on the penis can really make the penis appear larger. But this is certainly not permanent. The only reason certain oils can make the penis bigger is because the oil substance heats up the penis area, causing increased blood flow in the genital, and thus making it appear more engorged. On the up side, the heated effect of the oil may “up” your libido and put you more in the sexual “mood.” But on the down side, this is only temporary. It will not, and cannot, lead to the permanent enlargement and alteration of the penis size. When applying oils to the penis, it is important that you do so with caution. There is really no telling what chemicals are put in these oils, and you certainly wouldn’t want your penis to show any allergic reactions. Some allergic outbursts include itchiness, rashes, discoloration, bumps, and lumps.(5, 6)

4. Penis enlargement weights

Yes, I’m sure you’ve heard this mythical penis enlargement method many times before, and you’ve probably fallen prey to its great big claims. After all, since weightlifting and gym exercises can make your muscles bigger, why shouldn’t penis weights work the same way, right? Newsflash: the penis is not the same body part as your arms. Neither does it function in the same way that your chest and abdomen do. The truth of the matter is simple: penis weights are not only uncomfortable, but they can be incredibly painful as well. Even worse, they can cause stretch marks on your penis, leaving it not only the same size as when you started, but wrinkly as well. The only visible effects that penis weights give, therefore, are swelling and redness. It is scientifically impossible for this method to cause your penis to be enlarged—and certainly not permanently.(6)

5. Penis enlargement surgery

Okay, this isn’t a myth: penis enlargement surgery really does make your penis larger. This is because the surgical procedure involves the addition of fat to the penis, making it thicker and bigger in girth. However, as the penis is used during intercourse, there is a great possibility that the inserted fat will soon move around, thereby leaving your penis lumpy and clumpy. This deformity is certainly not attractive, and can in fact have many lovers running away from you (and your clumpy penis) as quickly as possible. Therefore, the myth about penis enlargement surgery is not that it doesn’t work, but instead, that it doesn’t always stay in that perfect shape forever. In a nutshell, penis enlargement surgery is not only expensive, it’s incredibly risky.(7) (8)

All about penis enlargement exercises

Because using such products are risky, a more natural and safer way to improve your stamina and penis size is through the right exercises.(9) Milking exercises, or Jelqs and Kegel exercises are just two techniques that can help you increase blood flow into your penis and increase its stamina. Milking exercises aim to direct blood into the areas of your penis where erectile tissues are found.(10) The movements that these exercises require is somewhat similar to the milking motion, thus the name. To do these exercises, encircle your penis with your forefinger and thumb. While maintaining a moderate pressure, slide the gripping hand along the length of the shaft. By doing this, you are increasing the blood flow into the erectile tissue.(11)

Kegel exercises can help you increase your stamina and control erection. To do these exercises, you first have to identify your PC muscle, which is the muscle you use to stop the flow of urine. This is located between the anus and the scrotum. Simply contract the PC muscle and once the muscle is tensed, hold the contraction for a few seconds. Then relax and repeat the exercise to make your PC muscle stronger.(12)

In the end, size isn’t the only thing that matters. Yes, some women may prefer guys with bigger equipment but the size shouldn’t be the only factor to be considered. Stamina, performance in bed, and intimacy can also sizzle up your love life. Instead of trying out several products that may only temporarily make your penis bigger, opt for more natural methods such as exercises that can increase your stamina and make you sustain longer erections. After all, a big penis that can’t perform well is nothing compared to a medium-sized one that can make your girl ask for more.

Throughout the years, many myths about the penis and men’s sexuality in general have clouded the truth and challenged the facts. Today, myths and misconceptions about the penis abound, causing confusion and misunderstanding. Some of the myths about the penis include those about penis size, sexual activity, and the “normal penis.” The main problem of such myths is that they cause stress, anxiety, or even insecurity amongst men by misleading them with false claims and fabricated lies.(1) This article will delve into the top five myths about the penis and give some insight into the truth.

Penis Myth 1 – Bigger is better.

One of the most prevalent myths about the male penis is that bigger is better. Among men, this is probably the most well-known myth, especially considering that guys sometimes tease or insult each other about being small in size. The penis is a symbol of male sexuality, machismo, and masculinity, which is why size is often fussed over among men. The immature notion that a larger penis equates to someone who is more masculine has led men to think or feel that bigger is better. Because the “bigger is better” myth has become so prevalent, some men are insecure about their penis size. Studies show that many men with average-sized penises actually think that their penis is too small.(2)

The truth is, a larger penis does not equate to being more masculine or macho, despite what other people may say or what the media may allude to.(4) Certainly, having a larger penis may dispel some insecurities or worries about one’s own penis size, but there is no scientific evidence that proves bigger is indeed better. As long as you are confident in your manliness and in who you are as a person, your penis size shouldn’t matter. So stop buying into this widespread myth.

Myth 2 – Size matters.

Another myth that is closely related to the first is that size matters when it comes to the bedroom. Because of the skewed perception that the media and pornography present, many people have been tricked into believing that women like large penises when it comes to sexual intercourse.(3) The size matters myth, as well as the bigger is better myth, have contributed to the growing industry of penis enlargement products and methods.

In truth, size does not matter as much to women as it does to men. In fact, some women claim that large penises cause a great deal of pain during sexual intercourse. The truth is, sex should be viewed as more than just penetration. There are many aspects of sexual intercourse and, ironically, penis size is just a small part of what it takes to have a wonderful sexual experience with your partner.(4) It is the experience as a whole that must be taken into consideration, not just the penetration. Penis size has little effect on the amount of pleasure that one feels during intercourse. Instead of focusing on penis size, you may want to concentrate on making an intimate, emotional, physical, and mental connection with your partner. By making her feel important, loved and cared for, instead of worrying about your size, you can give her the best and most pleasurable experience ever (regardless of your size).

Myth 3 – All penis enlargement methods work.

Another common myth about penises is that penis enlargement methods work. The penis enlargement industry has become quite successful, because people actually believe that the numerous penis enlargement methods out there work.(5) From pills and ointments to devices and surgery, men have tried numerous methods in an attempt to make their penises larger. Essentially, there are two myths at work here. First is the myth that a larger penis is better, and the second myth is that penis enlargement methods work. The media has influenced society to think that men with larger penises are better off and, for some reason, many people actually believe it and look for ways to make their penis size
larger.(6)

The truth is that most penis enlargement products and methods don’t work at all.(7) In some cases, such methods may increase penis size temporarily, but hardly any of them work permanently. Perhaps the most successful penis enlargement method involves surgery, which is usually costly and inconvenient. Some doctors, scientists, and researchers are still monitoring the effects, side-effects, problems, and general issues related to penis enlargement. The truth is though, you were made precisely the way you are, so why try to ruin that by altering your body parts?

Myth 4 – Penis size is proportional to other body parts.

Many misconceptions have come about because of the myth that the size of certain body parts, such as the feet or hands, is proportional to penis size. Basically, the myth is based on the premise that you can tell how big someone’s penis is by measuring their feet, hands, or nose.(8) The truth is, there is no scientific proof that shows a correlation between body part size and penis size. It is true, though, that certain genes that control the development of the limbs also control the development of the penis in the embryo stage. Still, when it comes to fully developed males, there is no absolute relation between the size of the penis and the size of the limbs or other body parts.(9)

Myth 5 – Certain races have larger penises than others.

Finally, the fifth popular myth related to the penis is that certain races have larger penises than other races. In most cases, this myth is based on the thought that African-Americans are well endowed, while Asians have smaller penises.(10) Numerous studies have been carried out regarding race and penis size. While some general truths were found, it is concluded by many professionals that the male penis comes in many different sizes, shapes, and forms in every race. Besides, even if such a myth were proven true, why would it matter? The myths of size have already been debunked above,(11) so a study like this would not matter much with regard to the function and use of the penis.

It can be hard to separate yourself from all of the stigma, misconception, and stereotypes that are related to such myths. In fact, the media, Internet, and society in general often contribute to such myths by claiming that they are true or by blindly believing in them. The truth is that the penis is just another part of the body and the male reproductive system. Perpetuating such myths about the male penis will only lead to more insecurity, unease, and misunderstanding.(12) The best thing you can do as a man is accept yourself and be confident in who you are.

Credit card debt seems to be the gripe of so many. The recent credit crunch only makes things worse. Are people doing so many things wrong when it comes to credit cards, then? If they are, credit card debt myths are partly to blame. There are so many of them out there, lining up on both extremes: some debts make the situation appear to be totally hopeless, while others make people just a little more complacent. Either way, a credit card debt myth is a financial troublemaker that needs to be completely debunked. Here are eight of the most common myths on credit card debts and the truth behind them:

Myth #1: Credit card companies send applications to those who can afford it

Think about it logically: how can credit card companies research each and every household they plan to send an application to?(1) The time they could spend on doing just that they’d rather spend on making mailing lists and sending as many applications as they can. It is just like a more personal take on advertising. The credit card companies just want you to be aware of the services that they are offering. So when you get a handful of credit card applications from various banks, it does not mean that you can afford any of the deals they are offering. Maybe you are even better off without a credit card at all.

Myth #2: Pay the minimum balance and you will be fine

If you are so confident about your credit card debt because you tend to zero in on how much the minimum payment is, you will end up in deep financial trouble. Think about the balance that you left last month and then add up the balance you will leave this month because you are paying only the minimum. Calculate the interest that will result in all those left-over balances and you know that you have gotten yourself deep under a pile of debt. Not only that, think about the state your credit score will be in after all this: terrible, just terrible.(2)

Myth #3: Using a debt consolidation company is easy

You probably think that since you are deep in debt, there is no other way for you to pay everything off but by hiring the services of a debt consolidation company. It won’t be easy, however. There are many things that you should consider about a consolidation company. Can you afford its service? Remember that you are already deep in debt. Is it a reliable company? There are debt consolidation companies that operate under the radar; they cannot be trusted with your money. Is it superior to your ability to pay off all your debts yourself? Maybe, it is. However, if you have enough discipline to pay the company a certain amount, you can have enough discipline to consolidate your own debts.(3)

Myth #4: You only have one credit score

Having one credit score may be neat, especially for those with nice scores. It may be a disaster if your score is a mess. You actually have three credit scores from three main credit agencies. Pray that your best-looking record will be referred to when your credit history gets checked out.(4)

Myth #5: You only need to cancel a credit card to improve your credit score

When you close a credit card account, you only give yourself a little bit more control over your finances. You have fewer or no credit cards left after the cancellation. However, closing the account will not improve your credit card score at all. You also shorten your credit age, which is an important factor in your credit score.(4)

Myth #6: Your negative record remains in your credit score for seven years

Bad credit record does not have to stick around for seven years or for any other period of time.(5) In fact, you can actually negotiate to have a record removed.(4) One way to negotiate with creditors is, of course, by paying the debt. You will just ask for the creditors to eliminate the record that states that you have been awfully late with your payments. You do not even have to be completely paid to negotiate with your creditors; you can actually promise to pay them within a certain period of time.(6)

Myth #7: All three major credit bureaus will have identical reports

Refer to the debunking of the myth that says you have only one credit score. The three companies do not have the same records. The reason for this? Not all of your creditors get to report to every company.(7) So, the more creditors you have, then the more likely your three reports are completely different from each other.

Myth #8: Credit cards are your little helpers

Credit cards may seem like free cash, especially at first. However, they are also very expensive to maintain.(8) Instead of paying for the retail price of a product, you end up paying not only the retail price but also the interest. If you have not been able to pay all your balances every month, you will end up paying so much more. To put things to the extreme end, credit cards cannot really offer a lot of positive things, except letting you buy things that you should not buy anyway.(9) Most people have become so dependent on credit cards that one of the popular myths has arisen: credit card makes you afford things and without it you cannot afford anything. The truth is that you should not use your credit card to buy extremely expensive items in the first place: it would take a long time and heavy interest fees for them to get paid.

There are still a lot of credit-related myths out there. Educate yourself about credit cards in general. This way, you can debunk the remaining myths and keep away from credit mistakes that can drive you towards bankruptcy. If you can manage your finances with cash, try to stick with it. Remember the time when you applied for a credit card for emergency purposes? Try to steer yourself back in time.

We’ve also seen how some institutions are resorting to desperate measures just to prevent their companies from going bankrupt. From big companies to your next door neighbor, the threat of bankruptcy looms close especially in these times. We learn about companies going bankrupt in the news. We also read about bankruptcies in the Internet.

However, despite the scary stories about bankruptcy, we also hear some good things about it. Some say that those who file bankruptcies can get away without paying their taxes and even the purchases that they have made.(1) Though there may be some truth behind this assumption, there is still a lot to learn as to how bankruptcy can actually be helpful to the financially challenged.

Declaring bankruptcy is actually a right afforded to people who are in dire financial situations and who can no longer fulfill their financial obligations to the state, to financial institutions, and to their lenders. In the US, there are two kinds of bankruptcies that people can file for — liquidation bankruptcies (Chapter 7) and reorganization bankruptcies (Chapter 13). Each type of bankruptcy helps a person or an entity in a state of financial trouble. To set the record straight, here are some myths and misconceptions that will be clarified and explained in order to give a clearer definition of bankruptcy.(2)

Bankruptcy Myth #1: Declaring bankruptcy is embarassing

A lot of people think that declaring bankruptcy is embarrassing, once word gets out that you can no longer pay for your mortgage or even for a purchase at the grocery. Friends and family may take pity on you, but at the back of everyone’s minds is a persistent sense of distrust. Being in this situation is unsettling; however, embarrassment can be avoided by keeping your bankruptcy status to yourself or just to the select people you want to inform. Financial institutions and your creditors are also bound by law to keep this information discreet and confidential. Unless you’re someone prominent enough to consider the attention of the media, you shouldn’t have any problems in keeping your financial status a secret.(3)

Bankruptcy Myth #2: You have zero chances of applying for a new loan or credit once you’ve declared bankruptcy

Credit hounds are the most thorough background investigators because the nature of their business entails that they put a lot of their trust and their money on people. A bankruptcy is certainly not something that would slip past their noses, but it certainly won’t cut your chances of getting a credit card or a loan.(4) A bankruptcy, however, can affect the terms and the cost of interest that a credit company or a lender will offer to you. Bankruptcies stay on your records for, at most, ten years; however in these troubled times, if credit companies chose to forego anybody with a bankruptcy in their records, they themselves would go bankrupt. As a precaution instead, credit companies and lenders will offer different terms and rates in order to ensure their financial safety as well as yours.

Bankruptcy Myth #3: Bankruptcy will take away everything you own

People often dread filing for bankruptcy under the assumption that their lenders and other financial institutions will close in on all of their properties. While this may prove true for properties such as real estate that have been mortgaged, there are limits as to what the banks and other institutions can take away from a bankrupt individual or entity. Bankruptcy laws differ from state to state and most laws offer protection to some assets and properties such as vehicles and real estate.(5) In order to get back any property that has been repossessed already, you should be able to pay off the loans for it before the government or a private lender sells it. Otherwise, if you haven’t paid off your loans, then there’s a bad chance you’ll lose property due to bankruptcy. A bankruptcy should allow you to regain your chances at financial responsibility, and it would be next to impossible if the banks and the government would take away everything that you own.

Bankruptcy Myth #4: You must be totally broke to declare bankruptcy

People often have a misconception that those who file for bankruptcy have already reached the end of their lines. This is definitely not true. In fact, you can declare bankruptcy even if you still have a few assets left to your name. You can even file for bankruptcy even if you have a spouse who has relatively a stable income. Bankruptcy claims are filed when the individual or entity can no longer fulfill his or her financial responsibilities to the state or to lenders. However, you don’t have to be jobless, homeless, or even penniless to file for bankruptcy.(6)

Bankruptcy Myth #5: If you file for bankruptcy, you can skip out on the taxes and other bills

This is where the two types of bankruptcy can help you and limit you when it comes to the financial aid that you can get. With a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you allow the government to repossess your assets and sell these off to pay your debts. However, this kind of bankruptcy will have you living within a certain kind of lifestyle for a period of years. Chapter 13 bankruptcy, on the other hand, is a type of bankruptcy that allows you to skip out on a few taxes. However, certain financial responsibilities such as child support and student loans among others must still be fulfilled on a timely basis.(7) A Chapter 13 bankruptcy doesn’t actually free you from paying debts, but rather helps you schedule a payment system that can go on from three to five years.

Throughout history, there have been a number of successful people who have built great fortunes. Many of these people were able to enjoy their riches, while leaving enough for future generations to enjoy. There have also been others who have earned vast amounts of money, only to be squandered away, ending in bankruptcy. Similarly, companies have been built into opulent empires that have been later reduced to rubble with a simple turn of tides. In this article are eight examples of some of the worst personal and corporate bankruptcies in history.

Historical personal bankruptcies

1. Jakob Fugger

Jakob Fugger is a 15th and 16th century merchant and banker who amassed such a fortune that he came to be known as Jacob The Rich. Throughout the Renaissance, Fugger played an important role in supporting major political and religious figures. He contributed over 540,000 (over 1,500 kilograms worth of gold) florins to help Charles V win the title of Holy Roman Emperor by paying off the electors.(1) Fugger also funded the construction of what is known today as Vatican City.(2) While Jakob was able to accrue enough riches to last for generations, many of his descendants would squander away the wealth and not much is left of it today.(3)

2. Henry Ford

Henry Ford is well-known as the founder and owner of Ford Motor Company. Many of Ford’s inventions reshaped and revolutionized the entire transportation industry and the history of America as a whole.(4) Before getting things right with the Ford Motor Company, however, Henry Ford had troubles with debt. Ford borrowed money from a few politicians and started the Detroit Automobile Company in 1899. Two years later, the company went bankrupt, almost forcing Ford himself into bankruptcy.(5) After leaving the Detroit Automobile Company, which would later develop into the Cadillac Automobile Company, Ford founded the Ford Motor Company and became one of the richest and most well-known people in the world.(4)

3. Mike Tyson

In more recent years, another sizable case of bankruptcy occurred when Michael Gerard Tyson filed for bankruptcy in 2003. Mike Tyson is one of the most popular, well-known and notorious figures in professional boxing. He fought his way to to the top of the boxing world, becoming the youngest person to win and hold the title of heavyweight champion.(6) Some of Tyson’s most lucrative boxing matches earned him over $30 million each. It is estimated that he earned between $300 million and $400 million throughout his career, but he ended up filing for bankruptcy in 2003 as a result of poor money management.

4. Charles M. Schwab

Charles Michale Schwab was a powerful and extremely rich man who helped lead a large steel corporation to success. Schwab’s career began as a stake driver in a steelworks company, which he later became the president of. He negotiated the sale of the company and became the president of the newly formed corporation known as U.S. Steel. Later on, Schwab ended up leaving the company to become the president and chairman of the board for Bethlehem Steel Corporation.(7) The company became one of the largest steel producers in the world and Schwab became extremely rich.(8) Schwab had a hankering for excessive spending on extravagant parties, gambling and extramarital affairs, which would cause his fortune to dwindle. In 1929, the stock market crash forced Schwab into bankruptcy. His fortunes were estimated at around $25 million to $40 million, which would have been equivalent to around $500 million to $800 million today.(7)

Historical corporate bankruptcies

1. Lehman Brothers

One of the most recent corporate bankruptcies, which occurred in 2008, holds the title as the largest bankruptcy case in history.(9) Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. is a firm that offered financial and investment services worldwide.(10) Before filing for bankruptcy on September 15, 2008, the firm was worth over $600 billion in assets. Causes for the bankruptcy date back over seven years, during the 9/11 attack, but the biggest cause was the financial crisis of 2008.(11)

2. WorldCom

WorldCom Inc., known today as MCI, Inc., was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2002. The WorldCom Inc. bankruptcy stands as the second-largest bankruptcy case in the history of the United States. The company’s pre-filing assets amounted to over $100 billion.(12) The main cause for the fallout was the numerous fraud cases that the company and its executives had to face. Since declaring corporate bankruptcy bankruptcy, WorldCom Inc. has merged with MCI Communications to form MCI, Inc.(13)

3. Enron

Enron Corp. currently holds the record for the third-largest bankruptcy filing in US history.(14) The American energy company was founded in 1985, and quickly became a large tycoon worth revenues approximated at around $101 billion in 2000.(15) Enron Corp. filed for bankruptcy in 2001, with their total assets amounting to about $66 billion before filing.(14) Cases of accounting fraud and business fraud that became known as the “Enron scandal” were the main causes for the bankruptcy.(15)

4. Conseco, Inc.

Before filing for bankruptcy in late 2001, Conseco, Inc.’s assets were estimated at over $60 billion.(16) Conseco was an insurance organization that offered life insurance, supplemental health insurance, annuity and other financial products and services. The company’s debt amounted to $8 billion, forcing them to file for bankruptcy.(17) The company was not able to rebound until 2003.

These historical riches-to-rags stories can be seen as large, red, flashing warning signs of what to look out for in order to avoid bankruptcy. Sure, some bankruptcies are caused by bad and perhaps even uncontrollable circumstances, but there are a number of ways that your can safeguard yourself or your company from bankruptcy:(18)(19)

1. Understand how personal bankruptcy and corporate bankruptcy works.
2. Make sure to have good legal and financial advisors with great track records, especially for corporate dealings.
3. Keep accurate and honest accounting records that will help you make accurate and honest decisions with regard to finance, legal, and bankruptcy matters.

One of the biggest lessons to be learned by these historical bankruptcies is that there can only be two bankruptcy fates: 1) stay bankrupt, or 2) earn back your fortune. Even if you fall and go bankrupt, it is not the end. With determination, hard work and clear goals anyone can rebound from a bankruptcy.
